Terms of Service
Effective: to be filled: effective date · Last updated: October 30, 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and to be filled: legal entity name (“we”, “us”) for using Lumocent: the mobile app, our website at localhost:3000, and the service behind them (together, the “service”). By using the service you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don’t agree, please don’t use it.
1. What the service is, and isn’t
Lumocent helps you track your own spending and budget, and split and settle shared costs with people you choose. It gives you information about money you tell it about. It isn’t financial, investment, tax or legal advice.
We are not a financial institution, a money transmitter or a payment processor. The service doesn’t hold, move or send money. When you settle up, it records that a payment happened and can open another app you use to send it; the payment itself happens outside the service, between you and the other person. You’re responsible for what you enter and for settling up with people in real life.
2. Beta
The service is in a private beta. It’s provided as it is and as available: it may have bugs, change, or stop working for a while, and data could be lost. During the beta, Pro features are on for everyone at no charge; that isn’t a promise of free access later. Please don’t rely on the service as your only record of important financial information.
If you send us feedback, we may use it to improve the service, without owing you anything for it.
3. Who can use it, and your account
You must be at least 13, and old enough to agree to these terms where you live; between 13 and the age of majority, only with a parent’s or guardian’s permission. Keep your phone and sign-in secure; you’re responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us at to be filled: contact email if you think someone else is using it.
4. Your content and shared spaces
What you enter stays yours. You let us store, process, sync and show it as needed to run the service, including showing it to the other members of a shared space you’re in.
When you add someone to a space or enter information about them (including adding them by name before they have an account), you confirm you’re allowed to. Members of a shared space see the expenses, balances, comments and member names in it. History is kept on purpose: edits and deletions stay in the history, and when you leave a space or delete your account, shared expenses you took part in stay for the others with your name removed, so their balances stay correct.
5. Fair use
Don’t use the service for anything illegal; don’t enter information about someone you’re not allowed to; don’t try to break into, overload, copy or reverse-engineer it; don’t scrape or resell it; and don’t use it to harass or deceive people. We may suspend or end access that breaks these terms or puts others or the service at risk.
6. Subscriptions and purchases
Some features may be paid: a subscription (Pro, Pro Duo, Student, Founding member). Purchases are made and billed through the Apple App Store or Google Play, under their terms. Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel; manage or cancel them in your app store account settings. Deleting your account doesn’t cancel a subscription. We don’t receive your payment details. Refunds are handled by the app store under its policies, except where the law where you live gives you more rights.
7. Changes
We may add, change or remove features, and we may update these terms. If a change to the terms is important, we’ll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. Using the service after that means you accept the new terms.
8. Ending
You can stop using the service and delete your account from the app at any time. We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms, or if the law requires it. Parts of these terms that are meant to last after that (ownership, disclaimers, limits on liability, disputes) do.
9. Our property
The service, including its software, design, name and logos, belongs to us or our licensors. You may use the app for its intended purpose; these terms don’t give you any right to our name, logos or brand.
10. Disclaimers
As far as the law allows, the service is provided as it is and as available, without warranties of any kind, including that it’s fit for a particular purpose, accurate or uninterrupted. Balances, conversions, estimates (such as “safe to spend”) and calculations are information, not a guarantee, and may contain errors. Expenses suggested from pictures, screenshots or speech may be misread; check them before you save. Some places don’t allow these exclusions, so some may not apply to you.
11. Limits on liability
As far as the law allows, we aren’t liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data or goodwill, arising from your use of the service. Our total liability for any claim about the service is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and CA$50. Nothing here limits liability that can’t be limited by law, or rights you have under consumer protection law.
12. Responsibility for misuse
As far as the law allows, you’ll cover our costs from claims caused by your breaking these terms, misusing the service, or entering information about someone without being allowed to.
13. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Before starting a legal claim, please email to be filled: contact email and give us 30 days to try to sort it out. If that doesn’t work, the courts of Ontario, Canada will decide, except where consumer protection law lets you bring a claim where you live.
